Achievement That Shines Bright.

Winning an ICAS

Winning an ICAS medal is a prestigious achievement. To receive one, a student must earn the highest score in their entire region—an outstanding result that’s often recognised in school award ceremonies.

Medal recipients are invited on stage and honoured in front of their classmates, teachers, and proud parents. It’s a proud moment that celebrates academic excellence and the effort behind it.

Beyond the applause, winning an ICAS medal can open doors. For many students, it becomes a powerful confidence booster and a standout achievement on scholarship applications—especially for those aiming to study abroad. Academic recognition at this level strengthens student profiles and can support future opportunities in global education.

ICAS Medals

Students with the top score in each subject in each year level are awarded a medal and a medal winner’s certificate. It should be noted that students must have sat the relevant assessment on the official ICAS sitting date and the result must be judged as sufficiently meritorious to be eligible for a medal.

ICAS student celebration

ICAS is a rigorous academic competition that challenges students with demanding higher-order thinking questions.

It’s designed to bring out the very best in each participant—helping students, along with their parents and teachers, uncover their true potential. This is no easy test. Taking part requires courage, dedication, and a great deal of perseverance.

Regardless of the final score, these valuable qualities—resilience, effort, and determination—are worth recognising and celebrating in every student who steps up to the challenge.

Why it’s important to celebrate participation in ICAS

As an extra-curricular test, ICAS is optional for many schools and students. Those who choose to participate are embarking on a difficult (but fun!) series of exams that test their higher-order thinking skills – skills less commonly used during their regular schooling, but crucial for their future success in terms of scholarship recognition in universities.

Celebrating their participation is important because ICAS is:

  • Challenging
ICAS questions really get students’ brains working, preparing them for their futures.
  • Motivational
ICAS is competition which motivates students to do well and achieve great things – like medals!
  • Fun
While challenging, the style of questions in ICAS are fun, real-world examples that students enjoy.
